Most major stores want to offer their shoppers a one-stop experience. But when Sears added a toy section to some of their retail stores, they realized they didn’t have the space to carry their entire selection. Their solution: offer customers online shopping from inside the store. They brought their toy graphics and kiosk ideas to Real Art and enlisted our help to create a logo and design the in-store shopping space.
After looking at Sears’ assets and the way shoppers use in-store kiosks, we decided to turn Sears’ solution into a more fun, memorable way to shop. We created a logo but also pitched the idea of surrounding the kiosk with a full arcade game cabinet that would allow for a quicker interaction and an ATM-like experience. And, of course, because old school arcade games are awesome. Once Sears was on board with our idea, we built the computer and keyboard (complete with a roller ball) and installed them in the game cabinet. We also used their graphics to create a vinyl wrap for the arcade cabinet and to design floor graphics and window clings. Then we packaged everything up and drove it to Sears to put in one pilot toyshop. Of course our goal was to help Sears increase toy sales with a greater in-store presence, but we also hope their customers love the throwback ‘80s arcade game as much as we did.
